Write & Ride
Program
This is a three-hour class lasting four weeks (four
classes). Each class consists of two hours of horsemanship
and one hour of creative writing and journaling. Cost per
student is $35.00 per class. Class size 6-8 people. Limited
scholarships are available.
Summer Day Camp classes also available.
Instructors:
The course is led by certified English teachers in Cobb
County Georgia and published writers.
Overview:
Participants learn to be assertive without being
confrontational. They learn what a mutually consensual
relationship feels like and they are able to transfer that
to every day life. They learn that they do not have to be a
victim.
Journaling:
This is a creative writing program that uses the journaling
process to help youth find their voice and their creative
mind. Their creativity is nurtured. Their mind is cleared so
they can focus on what is important to them. It reveals what
attitudes and beliefs they hold within themselves. Our
program offers an avenue for self-expression, emotional
healing and inspiration. All they need is a journal and a
pen. They write on whatever THEY feel is important. Grammar
and punctuation is not a consideration. They are asked to
share their journal entry. A discussion follows the reading.
Oprah Winfrey said: "Keeping a journal will absolutely
change your life in ways you've never imagined."
Horsemanship:
Western civilization would be hard to imagine without the
horse. They tilled our farmland and carried our goods. Their
courage took us to war. Up until the Industrial Revolution,
they were the fastest way to get anywhere on land. Now, for
the first time in history, we have no need of the horse’s
physical strength. What we do need, perhaps more than ever,
is the horse’s spiritual power. As great as the horse’s
gifts to us have already been, this one may be the greatest
Our participants learn about respect, trust and clear
communication by working with our horses. They learn how to
care for the horse, how to feed it, how to groom it and how
to get it to move. They learn responsibility through having
the horse depend on them for their care. They learn that
what doesn’t kill us can only make us stronger if we have
the humility, courage, and determination to go forward.
